↪ Forget Happiness: We Must Teach Our Daughters Ambition
Apparently, society doesn’t place enough pressure on young women to pursue careers. According to Susan Shapiro Barash, one of the primary lessons a mother must teach her daughter is to seek fulfillment through a career.
Whatever our own journey, the message should be that our daughters find satisfaction in their success, despite our generation’s complicated trajectory.
But as I’ve said before, a career cannot provide happiness.
I have to agree with this commenter:
If I were to list the qualities I want to see my daughter develop, I’d start with (1) kindness, (2) curiosity, and perhaps ambition would come in tenth or fifteenth place. Too much ambition is killing the planet, and making almost everyone unhappy.
